About St. Edward's

St. Edward’s University in Austin, Texas, was established more than a century ago by Father Edward Sorin, CSC, of the Congregation of Holy Cross, which was founded in Western France.

Over the past decade, St. Edward’s University in Austin, Texas, has embarked on an ambitious strategic plan to be recognized as one of the best small universities in the United States. Since then, the university has garnered significant national attention for its commitment to students, including:

  • Recognized as one of the most ethnically and economically diverse private universities in the country by The New York Times in its “Colleges of Many Colors” list.
  • Earned the coveted “Best Investment in Europe Award” at the World Investment Conference.
  • Named one of the “Best Colleges” by Princeton Review and U.S. News and World Report.
  • Ranked among the top five “Up-and-Coming Universities” in the Western Region by its academic peers in a U.S. News & World Report survey.

Why Go Global?

Our Holy Cross founders believed wholeheartedly in providing an educational experience that embraces diversity and cultures, while cultivating an intellectual appreciation and respect for other cultures and points of view. In all of its programs, the university encourages students to think openly, critically and ethically to foster a global understanding and broadened worldview.

Additionally, developing educational programs in Western France represents a “return to our French roots,” and the origin of the Congregation of Holy Cross, which founded St. Edward’s University.

Western France is an attractive, vibrant region, and Angers is a central location convenient to many other French and European cities. This makes Angers the perfect city for a St. Edward’s University presence. The area is also home to two key educational collaborators: Université Catholique de l’Ouest and the Institut Bois-Robert.

St. Edward’s University in France heralds the continued commitment to educate students to serve — and to lead — a culturally diverse world community.
