Texas Core Complete
If you’ve attended community college, St. Edward’s will help you graduate faster with the transfer core complete status. We are making it easier than ever to build on your hard work toward a four-year degree by fully accepting the core complete status and counting it toward your bachelor’s degree plan at St. Edward’s University!
That means you can complete your education by earning a bachelor’s degree more efficiently than ever before.
Students certified as core complete by a state of Texas public institution of higher education before enrolling at St. Edward's are no longer required to take additional general education courses outside those embedded within the student’s chosen major.
What is core complete?
The Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board implemented a 42-credit hour, general education core curriculum within the State of Texas for public college institutions. Every public institution in Texas has a core curriculum, which has a solid foundation of courses to allow for a more seamless transfer among institutions. Beginning in the Fall of 2020, St. Edward's University is one of the first private schools in Texas to implement a policy adopting the core complete status for transfer students.
How does the core complete status help me as a transfer student?
Having a core complete status will allow students to have seamless transferability of their general education coursework between institutions. If you're completing your core curriculum at your local community college in Texas, it's a great way to save time and money prior to your transfer to St. Edward's.
Do I save money if I'm core complete?
There are many universities to choose from and researching which university is the best fit takes time. Aligning with the Texas core curriculum early allows for more flexibility with timing and transferring of courses. In most cases, a transfer student who is core complete may only have two years to invest once they transfer to their university, which ultimately saves you time and money.
How do I know if I'm core complete?
The Texas Core curriculum is a total of 42 credit hours. A designation of "core complete" status will be located on your official transcript from your local community college in Texas. Please consult with your community college advisor for more information about your status and ordering official transcripts.
How do I submit my documents indicating I'm core complete?
You can request your official transcript to be sent directly to St. Edward’s. The official transcript should list your core completion designation status and must be received prior to enrollment at St. Edward’s to receive core complete status
Does core complete apply to freshmen?
No. First-time freshmen are not eligible for core complete status at St. Edward's. While they are eligible to bring in a high number of dual credit coursework and college-level examinations as transfer credit, they are required to complete some of their general education coursework at St. Edward's.

International transfer students who apply from universities outside the United States are required to submit their university transcripts for a course-by-course Foreign Credential Evaluation. Students may use any NACES accredited company for this service. SpanTran provides a discount to prospective St. Edward's students who apply for this evaluation.

Frequently Asked Questions
What GPA do I need to transfer?
Transfer admission requires a minimum GPA of 2.5. The applicant’s essay and most recent coursework weigh heavily on transfer admission decisions.
How many of my credits will transfer to St. Edward’s University?
St. Edward’s accepts up to 66 hours of junior college or community college credit and up to 90 hours of university credit (including dual credit courses completed in high school). All coursework must be completed with a grade of C- or better to transfer. The last 30 hours and at least half of your major coursework must be taken at St. Edward’s.
Complete the Preliminary Degree Plan Request and send us your transcripts so we can evaluate what credits will transfer to St. Edward’s. You can drop them off at our office or email, fax or mail them to us. The evaluation will be emailed back to you.
Will St. Edward’s need my high school transcript and test scores?
Applicants with fewer than 30 earned hours of college credit must submit an official high school transcript. ACT and SAT scores are optional, and you can read more about our test-optional policy here. If you have completed college-level English Composition I and II with a grade of C or higher, you do not need to send SAT or ACT scores. For more help, contact an admission counselor.
When should I begin my transfer plan to St. Edward’s?
The sooner, the better. We want to build a relationship with you as early as possible in your academic career so we can help you select transferable courses. Get started by scheduling a campus tour and meeting with our transfer admission counselor.
When should I apply for admission to St. Edward’s?
Transfer admission decisions can be made up to one year before you plan to transfer. It’s best to apply at the beginning of the last semester you plan to attend another college. This allows ample time for us to review your application. It also gives you enough time to apply for financial aid.
How can I prepare financially for my transfer to St. Edward’s?
We’ll partner with you and your family to make a St. Edward’s education affordable. You can help by filling out the Free Application for Federal Student Aid, or FAFSA, and having the results sent to St. Edward’s. Be sure to include our federal school code, 003621. Plan to apply for admission to St. Edward’s by our priority application deadline to increase your chance of receiving financial aid. Does St. Edward’s offer scholarships for transfer students?
Traditional transfer students are automatically reviewed for scholarships during the application process. Students with a cumulative GPA of at least 3.0, successful full-time enrollment and 30 hours of college credit at the time of application qualify for consideration. Members of Phi Theta Kappa who meet the above criteria may be eligible for an additional award.
